1. Replace the entire scouting department with proven successful NFL experience.
2. Replace the entire training and medical staff. A team with this many injuries year after year is clearly not doing something right.
3. Eliminate the current uniforms, especially the lame black one. Use the the throwback jerseys which are clearly the best in pro sports and would be a huge hit. These uniforms would also lend itself to the tradition and the history of the team when they were actually good and respectable. i.e. Red Wings and Tigers have a brand identity. The current Lions identity is losing.
4. NFL Cheerleaders. They don't have to dress provocatively, they can be classy and sophisticated.
5. Get rid of Gridiron. Nice guy, good spirit...still identifiable with losing seasons.
6. Stop proclaiming how great it is to get a first down over the PA system. No one cares.
7. Open training camp up again to the public. I'm sorry but losing season after losing season the fans are locked out from these top secret camps because of why? Oh it must be those new run twice, pass, and punt plays that no one knows about.
8. Cut Jason Hanson. His time is done, he did a good job. Let's get a guy that can routinely hit 50, and give us touch backs on every play.
9. If you have a fullback on your team, why do you not use him? We love Corey, but he's never used.
10. No more flag guys running out on the field. If you keep them, supply fans with bb guns.
11. Increase aggressiveness in signing proven free agents during the off season.
12. Bring in a new special teams coach. This years special teams schemes were the worst ever.
13. Trade down in the draft and acquire more picks, it will increase the odds of at least one person making a difference.
14. Actually try to trade for players. It's hard for NFL teams to do so, but a smart creative GM would at least make some moves.
15. Illitch, Davidson, Gilbert, and Karmanos...please buy the team! We are begging you.

Walk out in review
Did 40,000 people walk out? Heck no. Mostly because 30,000 of the fan base there were Bear
fans. So why would they walk out?
It was a success, because as I looked at the 8:57 mark...I saw alot of people leaving. Not
thousands. Then I headed to the atrium and there were a sea of Detroit cops getting
paid overtime and holiday time to dispell any possible security threat. But we also
saw many nice people leaving. Our estimate from 2 of the entrances were about
700 to 1000 people or so. More left at halftime.
But you know what, again all we cared about was our group making a statement. A symbolic
gesture. Win or lose for the Lions or Bears...it was a meaningless game.
Forward down the field!
Happy Holidays!

Local Media Clueless
ATTENTION: Pat Caputo, Drew Sharp, Eric Pate (who cares), and any other moron who doesn't get it.
I AM PISSED OFF at the way the local media is dismissing the fans and the walkout. They accuse the Fords of being elitists, but they are just as bad. They act as if they have the market cornered on rational behavior.
We are not dumb enough to think that the walkout will have any effect on the Lions. That's not the point...if the media would bother to look into our motives they would understand that the walkout is meant to symbolize to the National sports scene that we aren't a bunch of idiot sheep who accept whatever the Ford family slops onto a football field. For many of us it will be our farewell, and a substantial walkout would be a collective mooning of William Clay Ford. Also, by going home early we are realizing that it is much more important to be with our families than to watch the pathetic Lions play a meaningless football game. Given the product on the field it is obscene that Lions fans end up in the stands on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
And let's get another thing straight, we didn't specifically buy the tickets so that we could walk out in the middle of a football game...we made our mistake back in May when we paid the invoice for season tickets. Many of us won't make that mistake again.
The Detroit Lions are owned by an incompetent individual who has been incompetent his whole life. He wasn’t trusted to participate in the operation of Ford Motor Company, so the rest of the Ford family gave him the Lions to occupy his time. For four decades the incompetent old man has stubbornly made a joke of Detroit’s professional football franchise. He has all the answers and refuses to consult anyone of substance on how to build a successful professional franchise. So where does that leave Detroit’s NFL football fans? It leaves us as the butt of every joke about our team. Don’t listen to the arrogant media! Take a stand on a personal level. Even if you feel like you’re the only one walking out on Sunday you can leave with the knowledge that you know what’s right…and what Ford has done to our football franchise sure ain’t right.

Revising History
I find it funny, and aggravating how the local sports media says last year's Millen March Orange Out was only a couple hundred people. Does it look like only a couple hundred people
to you? I was there with my own 4 eyes, and there were at least 25,000 out of 60,000. And
I may be off by 10,000, so sue me. I realize these guys needs their press passes, but geez does
everyone have to be friggin Tony Ortiz? Let's live in the truth.

It's Time to Walk the Walk
In the grand scheme of things the Detroit Lions are a profoundly insignificant part of this world. And when I stop to contemplate the anger I have toward the Lions organization, it all seems pretty silly. But a part of the collective reality of our community is that many of us seek escape through sports. Can you imagine being a Lions season ticket holder who was job eliminated from Ford? There are plenty of them out there! Enough is enough. It’s time to walk. Go home to your families on Christmas Eve, they deserve your time infinitely more than the Lions! You have loved the Lions for years, have they ever loved you back?
December 24th
Lions vs. Bears
When the clock reads 8:00 in the second quarter, get up and walk out of the stadium and head home.
A protest by the fans won’t improve our economy, bring peace to the Middle East, or feed the hungry, but it may bring each of us a sense of calm knowing that in our own individual way we have taken a stand. Ultimately, the gesture will have little effect on the improvement of the Lions, but it will be a time for me personally to reflect on my emotional and financial commitment to this team. It may be time for me to let go and give up on a lost cause.
I am tired and numbed. In the case of the Detroit Lions they have broken my human capacity to feel hope. There is no hope. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. I have come to understand that as a football fan I was born into a hostage situation…it’s time to walk away. Any fan who does not walk out on the Lions on Christmas Eve is a willing hostage.
PS to the media…if this walkout is going to get noticed we need the collective cooperation of the media. This event isn’t sponsored by WDFN, WXYT, The Free Press, The News, or any of the TV stations. This is a grass roots effort by the people who buy the tickets! We need all the media outlets to help us get the word out. We will do our best with blogging, word of mouth, call-ins, etc., but ultimately we need help.

My Letter to the Book & Boodini
I think The Book and Boodini are probably a couple of the best on air personalities for the local
sports scence. However they arent as personable like Balagian, Stoney, or Foster. Anyways here is my rant to them following their 2 hour dicussion on the walk out.
Book & Boodini,

Faulk Hero
As speculation continues to grow that Lions running back Kevin Jones could miss at least a portion of the 2007 season while recovering from foot surgery, offensive coordinator Mike Martz made it known that he would like to be reunited with running back Marshall Faulk. "Shoot, I'd ride a bicycle up to pick him up," Martz told the Detroit Free Press. "I don't' know. That's not my decision. That's something (Rod) Marinelli and management would have to discuss."
Ugh.

How Bad Are They?
Here is some context around how bad they really are. Since Millen took over the Lions are 23-70 which equates to a .329 winning percentage (rounded up). Here are some other historical teams with similar winning percentages:
1972-1973 NY Islanders -- 12-60-6 -- .300 win percentage (I included the 6 ties as wins in the math)
1993-1994 LA Clippers -- 27-55 -- .329 win percentage
2005-2006 NY Knicks -- 23-59 -- .280 win percentage -- arguably the worst hoops team of all time. Truly dysfunctional.
1998 Florida Marlins -- 54 - 108 -- .333 win percentage -- this was the year that they completely dismantled after winning the World Series.
Yuck.

Can it get worse?
Yesterday was just pathetic. I'm admittedly a Lion's homer/apologist/slappy and that was hard for me to stomach. Thoughts on the game:
Mike Williams
Can this guy blow any more chances? The organization that has been so criticized for not utilizing him finally throws him a bone. First O play of the game -- about a 30 yard pass to Williams up the middle. Would have set the tone, the crowd would have reacted and instantly been engaged, defense on it's heels. He drops it. He friggin' drops it. Pathetic
Running Game
10 Carries for -3 yards?!?!? WTF?!? How can an organization with a solid runner (at least pending KJ's MRI today although it didn't look good) in Kevin Jones get -3 yards. And what's worse is only 10 carries! Where is the committment to the run? Why aren't we hammering it 25 times a game. The O'Line is horrible, that's why.
Kitna
At the beginning of the season I made a lunch bet with a Bears slappy that Kitna would have more TD's than INT's this year. I wonder if he'll be ordering an appetizer?
Coaching
Killer wrote last week that Martz should be banned from calling Time Out's. Kudos to you, TK, if you're reading this, you were dead on. Martz called 2 Time Out's in the first quarter. And it looks like its all offensive confusion that's causing it. What a waste.
I don't understand not kicking a field goal on that drive where we were on the 1 late in the 4th quarter. Abosolutely inexcusable. I heard Marinelli's explanation which was "I thought we could punch it in". Utterly ridiculous. You just had 3 shots to punch it in, didn't make it, lost your franchise RB for the game (season?) and you thought you could still punch it in? Coach, you cost us a chance to try and win the game. We would have been down by only 1 score and have a level of hope. You didn't kick that field goal and the game was instantly over.
Oh the humanity of it! I hate that the Lion's have become the laughingstock of the league. Even the Arizona Cardinals have a level of hope. I saw no positives yesterday and there's no reason for any hope at Ford Field.

Boo!

What is it Halloween again? The ghosts of LIONS past come to haunt the team again.
Artose Pinnner 3 Tds, and a buck and some change in yards.
Garcia wins 2nd straight start, with play calls from Marty Morningweg
Joey shuts out the Patriots.
Will it ever end?
SCARY!

Detroit Sports Team Power Rankings
1. Detroit Tigers
Last team to make the finals (in this case World Series) of their sport.

Still have a good team in a weak Eastern Conference. They should make the Eastern Conference Finals.
4. Detroit Redwings
A decent team, no longer a dynasty with all of the Dino err Bettman rule changes.

The shine of the Final Four appearances are getting a little duller.

A commuter school with a Division 1A basketball team.

Big Baby gone...
It's being reported by Mike O'Hara of the Detroit News that Shaun 'Big Baby' or 'Fat Turd' Rogers is being put on IR and will be out for the rest of the year.
Another excuse for the Mustache to call this year a wash.

Lionheart – Cowardly Lion Fans
To truly answer these questions, we have to ask ourselves whether we are truly following these Lions with the hopes that there is light at the end of the tunnel or are we just going through the motions; remembering the Barry Era and continuing to purchase season tickets, merchandise and of course funding both the Fords and Ilitches by paying for the outrageous parking fees. This is the conundrum that I find myself going through today. We have bought and paid for this 23-69 debacle that Millen and the Fords are putting us through. We are completely complacent in the fellowship of the Lions.
After watching the Lions put together an impressive afternoon yesterday by ALMOST pulling off an upset, I was left with the over-powering urge to…do nothing. Do nothing. It struck me, like an epiphany that we are sorely lacking in quite a few areas on this team. We are lacking at depth all over the field except quarterback – where our back-up plays wide-receiver. Our offensive line is plain offensive, again no depth and the players starting would be career back-ups on any other franchise. Our best wide-receiver yesterday played safety last year. Our best defensive lineman is out on a drug suspension with knee surgery mid-season break he has enjoyed for the last six weeks. Our next highest paid defensive lineman had a typical game yesterday – no sacks, no tackles. Our defensive captain (middle-linebacker) pulled a Chris Weber. And all of our secondary has nicknames like Burnt, or Toast. Coaching can only get you so far, and yet where is the improvement on either side of the ball? Do Nothing.
I am not sure if I was speaking about myself or the Lions upper management.
And yet, after all that, the strongest emotion I could invoke in myself was apathy. I have become more and more apathetic, complacent, not caring, etc. as this putrid season has rolled on. At the start of the season, I was still engrossed with the Tigers miraculous season and post-season. Toward the middle, I was enjoying my Fantasy Football (FF) teams. And now with the Redwings and Pistons in regular season mode, I will continue to distract myself further with them and my FF postseason.
With all of these reasons and many more that I could justify myself with, am I really complacent in the Lions failure? Of course I am. We all are.
We no longer care about where this team is headed. We talk about walk-outs, marches, anything but what will really hit the Lions with a message – the bottom line specifically their bottom line. Lions management could care less about these things as they continue to get a sold-out stadium game after game. When will things change? Only when we the Lions fan, stop buying into the hype and the season tickets. Don’t give Lions management an excuse to continue putting this putrid crap on the field. Stop your season tickets, don’t buy the black Shaun Rogers jersey with the needle marks and of course then you won’t go down to the stadium to fork over your hard earned cash. The message will resound louder than a march and all we have to do is: Nothing.
Do nothing when your season ticket renewal comes in the mail! I know I will.

Letter from the BCS!
I sent the BCS the college playoff solution. They responded:
Dear Hockeydino,
Thank you for getting in touch. You bring up some very good suggestions
about a college football playoff. We receive numerous proposals ever week.
I'll try to explain the reason there is not a playoff.
In order for an NCAA Division I-A Football Championship to be established,
the NCAA Division I membership must consider such a proposal through its
normal legislative process. As of this date, legislation to establish a I-A
championship has not been considered by the membership.
Through the years there have been several efforts through NCAA channels to
address the subject. In 1976, a proposal to establish a Division I-A
football championship was introduced on the recommendation of a special
committee that had studied the feasibility of a playoff. This proposal,
however, was withdrawn and there was no discussion on the Convention floor.
A resolution was presented during the 1988 Convention that stated the
Division I-A membership did not support the creation of a national
championship in the sport of football, which passed by a vote of 98 in
favor, 13 opposed and one abstention.
In 1994, a blue-ribbon panel was formed to gather information regarding the
viability of establishing a Division I-A football championship. The panel
forwarded a report to the NCAA Presidents Commission; however, it was
decided that the NCAA would not pursue a Division I-A championship.
When Southeastern Conference commissioner Mike Slive was asked about a
playoff, his response was as follows: "There really is no interest exhibited
presently by our presidents or chancellors or many others in having a
playoff. "
As for your other concerns, the BCS has been honed over the years, and while
we certainly realize no system will ever be viewed as perfect by everyone,
we feel it is fair.
And we certainly appreciate your opinion and respect your right to express
it.
We hope this helps.
Sincerely,
BCS

Weekend musings and highway robbery
Michigan got robbed there's not way around it. Vegas had Michigan a 3 point underdog to OSU,
and Florida is a 7 point underdog. Hello? How does that make any sense? Easy...the BCS is a
a JOKE. Always has been, always will be. Implement a playoff system ( http://detroitsportssnobs.blogspot.com/2006/12/college-football-solution-debate.html). Any of you
voters out there that voted for Florida, you need to get a clue. There was no good reason or real
reason for you to choose Florida. Essentially, you suck. I dont even see that team scoring against OSU. Ever wonder why the majority of people in OHIO voted for Florida? Figures.
Packers smoked at home again, gotta love it. Favrrre hang it up already.
Corey Dillon is underrated.
It really bugs me where there is laughing after the game betwee the opposing player.
No suit for Del Rio, so much for old school.
Way to go UCLA.
I like the Titans and Bills.
Saban has Joey throwing 40 times a game.
Wake Forest vs. Rutgers in the BCS game...wow.
Tony Romo is Joe Namath so it seems.

College Football Solution - debate
PAC 10 - there' an uneven amount of teams in IA. No way around that. And if there are good teams in the PAC 10 that dont win their divisions, they WILL be invited to the dance. That will be accounted for, there's no way around it.
Notre Dame - They need that tv contract or their screwed. They dont have the balls to join the big 10.
There are many natural rivals that are not in conference currently...and i think those should stay. So Pitt can still play Marshall. I'd like to put Penn State in the Big East and move Notre Dame to the Big Ten, but ND won't go for it and you know it.
Clemson to SEC which create a natural rival with South Carolina. And with Bama, Ark, LSU, and Auburn that's one hell of a division.
Georgia can handle the ACC, with GTech and the others...it's pretty damn good. Miami and Florida State.
I'm not disagreeing with your playoff scenario...however my solution allows for every bowl game but 3 to mean something. Having more teams in the dance is like March Madness...more teams fighting for a chance and getting a chance to move on. This past week in college football was the best week of games all season long. Why is that? Because championship games mean something. Make those bowl games mean something more than just a paycheck. Who cares if you win the Independance Bowl right now?
This was the best season ever in college football...and it's ruined because there is no playoff system. Everything is left to the voters to decide. Half the country wants Florida, the other half wants Michigan to play in the championship. Half the country is going to be pissed. A playoff would settle it. Like you've said, Division II has it right.

Subject: College Football Solution - updated Attached is my solution to fix college football so that a championship is based on a playoff system. It has been modified based on all your
feedback. Thank you.
Benefits:
Preserves traditional rivalries
Allows teams of similar power in other conferences to play that normally do not Makes every game important Allows a chance for smaller schools to compete with larger schools and improve their rankings
>> Removes doubt as to who should be playing for championship
>> Eliminates much of the subjectivity of the BCS rankings
>> 31 Bowl Games preserved
>> Increases the odds of top ranked teams of playing more than once in a season
>> Increases regional rivalries allowing for reduced travel costs on teams and fans
>> Eliminates any independent teams
>> Each team plays 12 regular season games
>> Rotation yearly of final round bowl games to determine champion
>> Seeds and schedules are based on previous season standings
>> Elimination of bye weeks

Millen Losing Battle with Montezuma

The Detroit Lions and their fans have been suffering from what appears to be a chronic, and rare form of IBS (Irritable Ball Syndrome). For many years, we treated the symptoms with very basic over-the-counter excuses...these clearly have not been able to handle the flare-up we have seen in the past six seasons.
For ten years, Barry Sanders allowed us to co-exist with our case of IBS. The first sign for the fans should have been to cure ourselves of this awful condition in the same fashion that Barry Sanders did...just walk away. Sanders escaped the wrath of IBS before it reached the epedemic proportions that it stands at today. Is it too late for the rest of us?
When Matt Millen walked through the fabled Silverdome doors some six-plus years ago, the IBS must have strangled his immune system without even a hint of damage. The rest as they say, IS HISTORY. The Lions and Matt Millen appear to be drinking Montezuma's water each and every week rather than the Gatorade that the other NFL teams ingest. The strange thing is that the human body can usually adjust and rid itself of the initial reaction to Montezuma over time...the Lions just can't build the anti-bodies it takes to shake the perpetual case of "The Drippies".
It is sad to think that we long for the days of when IBS was simply a week to week "Steamer". Matt Millen has apparently introduced a new strand of the virus which has since infiltrated the Team, the Coaching Staff, the Leadership (hahahaha), the Practice Facility, and Ford Field. Hell, Millen's strand of IBS has even spread through Mr. Ford and into the Ford Motor Company! Will the epidemic ever end?
The liklihood of the Lions ridding themselves of these toxins appears quite unlikely. When they aren't urinating out of their back sides on and off the field (including naked coaches at fast food drive thru windows), they seem to have a never ending case of the "Walking Farts". Perhaps we the fans can support the Lions and provide them just the medicine that they need...let's do as has been referred to on this very blog and walk out on them during the game on Christmas Eve. What better time than on the holiest of nights...let's exercise those deamons and leave the stench of us all "relieving" our IBS deamons on them at Ford Field. Afterall, if the Superdome was able to be restored, so too can Ford Field.
Montezuma Millen must go!
