In the grand scheme of things the Detroit Lions are a profoundly insignificant part of this world. And when I stop to contemplate the anger I have toward the Lions organization, it all seems pretty silly. But a part of the collective reality of our community is that many of us seek escape through sports. Can you imagine being a Lions season ticket holder who was job eliminated from Ford? There are plenty of them out there! Enough is enough. It’s time to walk. Go home to your families on Christmas Eve, they deserve your time infinitely more than the Lions! You have loved the Lions for years, have they ever loved you back?
December 24th
Lions vs. Bears
When the clock reads 8:00 in the second quarter, get up and walk out of the stadium and head home.
A protest by the fans won’t improve our economy, bring peace to the Middle East, or feed the hungry, but it may bring each of us a sense of calm knowing that in our own individual way we have taken a stand. Ultimately, the gesture will have little effect on the improvement of the Lions, but it will be a time for me personally to reflect on my emotional and financial commitment to this team. It may be time for me to let go and give up on a lost cause.
I am tired and numbed. In the case of the Detroit Lions they have broken my human capacity to feel hope. There is no hope. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. I have come to understand that as a football fan I was born into a hostage situation…it’s time to walk away. Any fan who does not walk out on the Lions on Christmas Eve is a willing hostage.
PS to the media…if this walkout is going to get noticed we need the collective cooperation of the media. This event isn’t sponsored by WDFN, WXYT, The Free Press, The News, or any of the TV stations. This is a grass roots effort by the people who buy the tickets! We need all the media outlets to help us get the word out. We will do our best with blogging, word of mouth, call-ins, etc., but ultimately we need help.

It's Time to Walk the Walk

As stupid as I know this will sound, the relationship between a football fan and a team is like a marriage -- it's all about the give and take.
I GIVE my hard earned dollars on season tickets. I own tons of Lions crap from Jerseys to chairs to T-Shirts to blankets to pajamas as well as my loyalty and passion and the Lions have TAKEN it all.
What have the Lions given to me? 23-70 over the last 6 years and an increase in my season ticket prices.
Thanks Mr. Ford.
Bison,
That's why I still insist that we as Lions slappies (season ticket holders) need to give them up like a junkie has to give up the needle.
Show Mr. Ford that it is no longer acceptable - this product on the field.
Walk-out on Sunday - stop being Lions junk - best of all, don't renew your season tickets next year.
No No No.
During Marinelli's telephone conversation a few weeks ago on the Dre Bly show, Marinelli mentioned that, "the Detroit Lions as a business is doing well and that's all that really matters".
The Fords have already made their money from us. The NFL protects owners with tv revenue, and sharing. Empty seats will not hurt this team. Merchandise sales won't hurt either..they'll just lay off employees like they do at the auto plants.
The fact that we are apathetic doesnt do a damn thing either.
This a a blackhole we are in. All we can do is FIGHT. For them, any publicity is good publicity. One would think they one would prefer good publicity..but so be it. They are a car wreck. You feel guiilty for looking, but you still glance and wonder what happened.
We go and we watch because we love football and we demand a professional football team. Sports is part of our fabric..the fiber of our beings. It's in our culture. It is embedded. They do not get this, but yet maybe they do. They realize it doesnt matter if you win or not. We care, it matters to us.
I have faith in the human spirit,a and when tyrants rule, the good of mankind fights to remove them from power. If you run, you are France. If you fight, you have a chance.
You are again confused.
The issue is not about running like France. This is about fighting for our right to have a real NFL team. You have again misunderstood your own objective. The objective should be to have a viable (hopefully) winning NFL team in our market. This is not happening with current ownership, leadership and collection of players. The real question is how to get the message across to ownership that this is putrid piece of crap is not acceptable to the metro city of Detroit.
What is the message you are trying to send? On one hand you advocate walking-out on the Lions, and on the other you say empty seats won’t hurt Mr. Ford. Exactly what is it you are trying to achieve? To me, it looks as if you are not sure. Indecision is always bad.
Our only difference in argument is that you are suggesting a temporary walk-out – I am suggesting a more permanent one. We both believe that the only power left in the hands of the fans is to create potential embarrassing situations for the owner. We both agree that an NFL team cannot be hurt monetarily by the fan base temporarily. I believe further, that an eroding of that fan base through a lose in season ticket holders can be potentially more embarrassing to Mr. Ford than a single game walk-out.
You are suggesting to fight. What exactly does that entail? And how would you propose we remove ownership from a franchise? Please elaborate.
Hey Lions fans...looking for a cool AFC team to root for? Try the Chargers...they know how to win and to play. They also have the best running back in the world, who won't retire early because the organization could care less about winning. Our Bolt Brothers are looking at us!

Go Bolts!
I'm not confused sally, a walk is a slap in the face. That is my objective. If you plan to walk to hurt there pocketbooks, you are sadly mistaken. That will never happen. Money is in the bank, invested, and vested.
Humiliate them. Embarrass them. Show them you are pissed. BOO them. YELL. SCREAM. You can't do that from your living room. Do it in their face, in their house.
REVOLUTION!

Great another 2 and 14 season. The Saints and 49ers in the playoff hunt, yet the Lions go backwards.
Are you freaking kidding me! It never ends!
FIRE MILLEN!
Nothing would be cooler than to see 50,000 people get up and leave. Put that on ESPN baby!

HELL YEAH!
FIRE MILLEN!
It's not about Firing Millen. Who cares about that? That may or may not solve the problem.
The walkout is about years and years of bad football. Sick of it.
while a walkout may look good...ultimately you're still putting money in the pocket of the Fords by having a damn ticket to the game. If the fans stop buying tickets maybe THEN they'll see the difference, but they frigging stop selling beer at halftime anyway, so they won't be losing that much revenue if youwalk halfway thru the 2nd. just my 2 cents
We have a pro football team, we want to see pro football live. In order to see pro football you need to buy tickets.
Season tickets are paid well in advance. You can't hurt the Fords financially or the team. They make their money on luxuary suites, and tv revenue sharing with the league.
An empty stadium and they still make money.
We are just tired of the boring games, the unentertaining games. The lack of competetiveness. Why does it take years to make the playoffs?
We just want good football..that's all we ask!
Why 8 mins?
Well we should have did 12.57, that was the month and year they won their last championship. The other group doing the walk is promoting 8:57.
We just decided 8 minutes at random. Anything in the first quarter...people are already still coming in late. Anything in the third and 4th quarter the game is already out of hand.
What people have to realize is, at halftime you always have people leaving the stadium as is. It's a fact. They are so boring.
Walk out...but for good.
Don't renew your season tickets.
